MFT Summer School Session Three (It’s Your Turn to Learn)

Hi, everyone, welcome to another lesson in Session Three of MFT’s Summer School series! This time we’re focusing on design and color. Be sure to check it all out at the MFT Blog.

The theory we’re exploring today is Color Saturation The intensity of color. The more white or gray that’s added, the less saturated the color becomes. Cards tend to work best when the saturation of the colors are on a similar scale.

I decided to work with the recently released LJD Scribble Roses, colored with Copic markers using intense values of orange, red, and dark red to illustrate the theory. I started with a Sweet Tooth card stock base, then added a strip of Dots & Stripes Neutral Paper Pack in Steel Gray to balance out the bold colors in the roses. Next I added a trimmed down piece of Sweet Tooth card stock, popped up on foam, then cut LJD Scribble Roses Die-namics from Neenah Classic Crest Cover, Solar White Smooth, 110lb, stamped the images from LJD Scribble Roses with Black Licorice hybrid ink, colored them, and popped them up on foam. The sentiment is from BB Polynesian Paradise and was stamped with Black Licorice hybrid ink before finishing off with enamel dots to match the roses.

And there you have it—I think these intense colors play nicely on the white background with the gray and white striped border. Be sure to check out the MFT Blog to see which other designers are participating in this lesson. Thanks so much for stopping by! See you soon!
