May Your Holidays Sparkle–MFTWSC #200

MFTWSC200_2014oct29

Hey, there! It’s Wednesday noon so it must be time for this week’s
MFTWSC! Are you ready? Here’s this week’s sketch. All of the details about the sketch challenge are available on the MFT blog as well as in the weekly newsletter. The Design Team will be on hand to provide plenty of inspiration to get you started.

MFTWSC200

As you can see, I flipped the sketch for my card today. I started with a Wild Cherry card stock base, then stamped up some Sheet Music Background on Sweet Tooth card stock with Black Licorice dye ink, and spread some embossing paste on it through Small Brick Wall stencil. I *should* have used Black Licorice hybrid ink, and would have if I’d been thinking, because it’s waterproof. It turned out OK, but if my embossing paste has been any wetter I’m thinking I’d have gotten some bleeding. After it dried, I sponged some Wild Cherry dye ink through the stencil onto just the bricks. Then I matted it with Black Licorice card stock to ground it. Next I stamped the sentiment, from Seasonal Sentiments on a Vertical Greetings Die-namics cut from Sweet Tooth card stock with Versamark and heat embossed with silver embossing powder. I adhered that to the brick panel, tied around some silver cord with a Wild Cherry button and popped it up on foam on the base. I finished off with some silver glittery enamel dots.

Another sentiment from Seasonal Sentiments was stamped on the inside with Wild Cherry dye ink.

Happy Halloween–CTD #316

CTD316_2014oct29

Hey, there, everyone! It’s time for another Color Throwdown Challenge! Today’s colors are brought to us by Monika—I really love that bright blue!

swatch 316

The inspiration piece is a Fall scene, but it said Halloween to me so that’s what I went with—my LAST Halloween card for this year, I promise :)

I started with a Sweet Tooth card stock base. Next, I did a watercolor wash on some Ranger watercolor paper with a Pacific Point reinker from SU! I matted that with Black Licorice card stock and popped them both up on foam. Next I added a fence, cat, and tombstone, cut from Black Licorice card stock and Grout Gray card stock, using Spooky Scene Die-namics. Then I added a LJD Out on a Limb Die-namics tree, also cut from Black Licorice card stock and leaves cut from Lemon Drop card stock and Orange Fizz card stock. The sentiment is from LJD Primitive Pumpkins and was stamped with Black Licorice dye ink.

Another sentiment from LJD Primitive Pumpkins was stamped on the inside along with more leaves.

MFT October Creative Challenge–Cork Ideas Worth Pinning

creativechallenge1_2014oct22

Hi, everyone! It’s time for this month’s MFT Design Team Creative Challenge. This month we’re challenged to create cards and projects that you’ll want to add to your Pinterest boards using the cork sheets MFT offers.

I have a couple of cards for you, both of them Christmas cards because that time is quickly approaching! For my first one, I used a cork sheets to create iced gingerbread “cookies” for the front of my card. I started with a Wild Cherry card stock base, then on a piece of Sweet Tooth card stock I applied some embossing paste using the Grid Stencil. I trimmed that down, added a Black Licorice mat and popped it up on the base. Then, from cork sheets I die cut the snowflakes from LJD Snowflake Splendor Die-namics. Next, using Sweet Tooth pigment ink, I stamped the snowflakes from LJD Snowflake Splendor and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I had never heat embossed on cork sheets before but I gave it a try and it did great! It doesn’t take as long as it does on paper and I made sure to have my heat tool good and hot before I started melting the powder so I could get it done quickly. I think they turned out looking so much like the real thing, how about you?

Next, I stamped “Christmas” from Merry Messages with Black Licorice dye ink and, on a strip of Black Licorice card stock, stamped part of a sentiment from LLD Delicious Birthday and heat embossed it like the “cookies”. To finish it off I added a few glittery enamel dots.

Another sentiment from Merry Messages was stamped on the inside with Wild Cherry dye ink.

My second card uses cork sheets for the die cut sentiment.

I started with a Kraft card stock base, then on a piece of Berrylicious card stock, I stamped clusters of the three little snowflakes from LLD Holiday Subway Art over and over with Versamark and heat embossed with Silver Pearl embossing powder. I grounded it with some Black Licorice card stock and before popping it up on foam, tied around some hemp cord.

I cut a “happy” from cork sheets with Happy Die-namics and adhered it to the card from. The sentiment was finished by stamping another image from LLD Holiday Subway Art on Primitive White card stock with Black Licorice dye ink and popping it up on foam. The card was finished off by tying on a Black Licorice button with hemp cord.

Another sentiment from LLD Holiday Subway Art was stamped on the inside on Primitive White card stock.
